Bess Beetles and Pill Bugs

Good news! The bugs for our science unit came today. The kids set up their homes and the bugs started burrowing. We will have two more days to observe them.

Loving Eyes!

O Ambassadors

Our school was chosen to be O Ambassdors for Oprah's Free the Children. This program encourages students to become active global citizens. This means that our school will find creative ways to raise money to help purchase school supplies, books, and even money to help build a school in Latin America. The first graders are helping out by collecting spare change to make a change. Please look for the purple note in your child's homework folder explaining the project. Please click on the link in the blue bar to learn more!

Mystery Reader

Today Keller's Aunt came in and read to us "Today I feel Silly." She was so nice and even treated us to cookies with pink frosting!

Fish Detectives

As part of our study of organisms, we have created a new job called Fish Detectives. One student from our class and one student from Mrs. Wanicke's class will go down and observe the fish tank outside of the media center. Joe got picked to be our first Fish Detective today. He took notes about what he observed!

FYI

November Reading Logs were due today. Please make sure your child turns this in tomorrow if he/she hasn't done so already.

November Work Packets: Today your child is bringing home their November Work Packets. Please don't be alarmed if the activities in the back of their packet are incomplete. These activities are intended for the kids to do once they have completed their calendar, weather, address, words, and daily pages. If your child would like to work on these pages at home and return them to school for a sticker that would be just great!

Math: We have been working our way through Unit 4 in math. This unit focuses on measurement and strategies in learning the basic facts.

Science: Our study of organisms continues throughout this month. The kids have planted pea, pumpkin, sunflower, and kidney seeds. Their plants have grown quite tall over the Thanksgiving Break. We also received a shipment of snails and guppies which we have been observing in our homemade aquariums. Soon, we will receive pill bugs and millipedes.
